In Health & Healing, Meditation & Mindfulness, Thoughts

For the past year, I’ve been experimenting with sound, and more specifically tonal vibrations. Today, I don’t think I could go back to living without them. I use frequencies to help with healing during meditation and while I’m working to increase focus and concentration.

There are two types of frequencies that I have been experimenting with over the past year, they are Solfeggio Frequencies and Binaural Beats.

Everything, from the tiniest quark to the largest star, has a frequency.  Vibrations are all around us. You may not notice them, but they’re there. From Microwaves to Gamma waves, WiFi signals, Music – our bodies are constantly absorbing vibrations from all around us. Sound therapy is an ancient way of not only healing our bodies, but some even speculate that sound has the ability to change our Neurophysiology and even our DNA.

Binaural Beats work with the use of headphones, it is the result of two slightly different competing audio waves being heard separately from your left and right ear. Binaural Beats causes your brain to try and identify each distinct tone; in doing so, the brain changes its own frequency resulting in a modification of our neurophysiology.

Binaural Beats have been known to help people with weight loss, easing withdrawal symptoms from alcohol or tobacco, insomnia and sleeping disorders, anxious thoughts and so much more. There’s no telling what these sounds can’t do – the only way to know is to try for yourself!

Delta brainwaves are slow, loud brainwaves (low frequency and deeply penetrating, like a drum beat). They are generated in deepest meditation and dreamless sleep. Delta waves suspend external awareness and are the source of empathy. Healing and regeneration are stimulated in this state, and that is why deep restorative sleep is so essential to the healing process.

Theta brainwaves occur most often in sleep but are also dominant in deep meditation. Theta is our gateway to learning, memory, and intuition. In theta, our senses are withdrawn from the external world and focused on signals originating from within. It is that twilight state which we normally only experience fleetingly as we wake or drift off to sleep. In theta we are in a dream; vivid imagery, intuition and information beyond our normal conscious awareness. It’s where we hold our ‘stuff’, our fears, troubled history, and nightmares.

Alpha brainwaves are dominant during quietly flowing thoughts, and in some meditative states. Alpha is ‘the power of now’, being here, in the present. Alpha is the resting state for the brain. Alpha waves aid overall mental coordination, calmness, alertness, mind/body integration and learning.

Beta brainwaves dominate our normal waking state of consciousness when attention is directed towards cognitive tasks and the outside world. Beta is a ‘fast’ activity, present when we are alert, attentive, engaged in problem solving, judgment, decision making, or focused mental activity.

Gamma brainwaves are the fastest of brain waves (high frequency, like a flute), and relate to simultaneous processing of information from different brain areas. Gamma brainwaves pass information rapidly and quietly. The most subtle of the brainwave frequencies, the mind has to be quiet to access gamma. Gamma was dismissed as ‘spare brain noise’ until researchers discovered it was highly active when in states of universal love, altruism, and the ‘higher virtues’. Gamma is also above the frequency of neuronal firing, so how it is generated remains a mystery. It is speculated that gamma rhythms modulate perception and consciousness, and that a greater presence of gamma relates to expanded consciousness and spiritual emergence.

Now, there is scientific theories behind each of these tones.  If you’re interested in the origin story or how they we’re conceived – I’d recommend visiting this beautiful blog from Attuned Vibrations! They go in depth into the Epistemology of these notes traditionally known as the “Solfeggio” Frequencies.

Solfeggio frequencies are those that immediately, without the use of headphones, penetrate our body on a quantum level. These frequencies resonate inside each and every cell they encounter, which respectively changes the emitted frequency of each cell. These vibrations have been used for thousands of years as an ancient healing tool as well as in religions hymns and even, as some say, in incantations.

The main six Solfeggio frequencies are:

396 Hz – Liberating Guilt and Fear

417 Hz – Undoing Situations and Facilitating Change

528 Hz – Transformation and Miracles (DNA Repair)

639 Hz – Connecting/Relationships

741 Hz – Expression/Solutions

852 Hz – Returning to Spiritual Order

963 Hz – Complete Reset
